3 Foot Fence Calculator
A 3-foot fence is decorative more than protective. It defines a front yard, borders a garden bed, or keeps small dogs and toddlers from wandering, while leaving the view open.

Building a 3-Foot Fence
For a 3-foot fence, use 6-foot 4×4 posts set about 24 inches deep, spaced every 8 feet, with 2 horizontal rails per section and about 1.5 bags of 60 lb concrete per post. A 100-foot run works out to 16 posts (including one gate), 24 bags of concrete, 26 rails, and about 320 pickets if you use standard 3.5-inch boards.
Codes and permits: Three feet is under almost every front-yard height limit, so it rarely needs a variance. Some towns still require a permit for any fence, so check before you dig.
