How Many Fence Panels Do I Need?
To find how many fence panels you need, divide your total fence length by the panel width and round up. Most wood and vinyl panels are 8 feet wide; most aluminum panels are 6 feet wide. For 100 feet of 8-foot panels, that is 100 ÷ 8 = 12.5, so you buy 13 panels.

Detailed Answer
Formula: panels = fence length ÷ panel width, rounded up.
8 ft panels (wood, vinyl): - 50 ft → 7 panels - 100 ft → 13 panels - 150 ft → 19 panels - 200 ft → 25 panels
6 ft panels (most aluminum): - 50 ft → 9 panels - 100 ft → 17 panels - 150 ft → 25 panels
You need one more post than panels in a straight run, plus 2 posts per gate. If your length isn’t an exact multiple of the panel width, the last panel will need to be cut down. Wood and most vinyl panels can be trimmed; aluminum panels are usually cut at the rail.
